| Biography My name is Heather, and I am currently the resident of a Los Angeles suburb with a name that you would probably find humourous. I'm not sure how much you can tell about a person from a brief biography, but this is my effort. For news on me and this website, go here. According to personality tests, I am an introverted intuitive thinking judger. That classifies me as a green/scientist/mastermind. I think it just means I'm a shy geek. I am a cat person. My favourite colour is purple. This, of course, has no greater relevence whatsoever. I have a profound interest in comparative religious studies and interfaith dialogue. One of the ways that I fufill my interest in religion is through various message board and interfaith dialogue communities. We debate, we discuss and everyone has a good time. One of the most stimulating things to do is to play devil's advocate in debate, which I do quite frequently, arguing against my own perspective. Nihilists are silly. I am also a booknerd. I lovelovelove reading. My favourite fiction book is Tom Robbin's Another Roadside Attraction, which is absolutely the weirdest and most fabulous book I have ever read. Some of my favourite writers (besides Robbins) are Barbara Kingsolver, Sherman Alexie, Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, Amy Tan and Don Delillo (yeah, I guess that's sorta an ecelectic mix). But mostly, though, I vastly prefer to read non-fiction. I love hard sciences, history and of course philosophy and religious studies texts. My favourite philosophy/theology writers are the late, great Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and contemporary process theologian David Griffin. I love books on the science of the body, and body ritual and body modification. I am utterly enamored with the book Sacred Pain by Ariel Glucklich. I love semi-colons; I rarely use them correctly. Yes, I know I used the semi-colon above correctly. I enjoy movies. I have a weakness for Chinese Wuxia/martial arts films. To be more specific, I lovelovelove ridiculously elaborate choreographed battles that defy physics, the mythological themes, the events that are a tinged with fantasy, the appealing, dynamic characters like those of Crouching Tiger and Hero. I am also a fan of independent and low-budget foreign films in general, though I (very) occasionally love me some typical Hollywood stuff. General rule: interesting story, dynamic characters with decent acting, some good directing and I'll probably like it. Occasionally, I enjoy watching movies that are so ridiculously bad that I'm laughing for weeks. I enjoy music greatly; a fairly broaf range from metal to Irish folk music to trance. Though my favourite music genre is metal (prog or power), my favourite band is probably Depeche Mode and my favourite singer Ofra Haza (neither of which are metal). I love the emotional energy of a good song.
I love travel and wish I could do it more. I've been to the UK, but not to San Francisco. I really am fascinated by linguistics. My brain has difficultly processing languages. I wish I knew a million of 'em, but alas. I attempted Spanish twice: failed. It took me close to six months to learn the Hebrew alphabet. Mandarin lasted a week. So, I think I'm going to end up sticking with what I know: English and American Sign Language. And Hebrew in a totally not-comprehending-at-all sort of way. So... that's me in brief. Awkward and mismatched and weird yet paradoxically boring. Completely lacking eloquence yet babbling way the hell too much. Yeah, hi, nice to meet you.
